Well, I have couple of the Silver Age Supergirl ones and the Crisis on Infinite Earths, so I can´t say I am her biggest fan. But I grew up taking a liking to the character (and I admit it, I cried when I read the COIE and her death´s scene ) so lately I was having fun reading some scans in Scans Daily from her latest numbers.

Well, Why do I say about the most ridiculous topic?

In recent issues, Dc Comic gave the Supergirl title to a new creative team, Sterling Gates (writting) and Jamal Igle (the main artist), I don´t remember the other guys names that do the covers, the inking and the lettering stuff .
The book , before being given to them, was being highly critized because of mediocre (and sometimes bad) writting, so unless someone was able to put the poor Supergirl in the right way, the comic would be eventually put to sleep.
Ok, from issue 34 until now, Jamal Igle began to show a lovely artwork (and I admire him very much, his style is really awesome!) and Gates helped to give a better consitency to the character.

Still, lots of fans complain. And quite harshly!! O:

Why?

Because Igle added bike shorts under Supergirl's skirt!

Igle said in an interview :
“One of the reason why I went with the shorts rather than just draw the skirt in a way where it was either longer, or I never showed it flying up was that I wanted freedom of movement,” Igle said. “With the fight between her and Reactron on the rooftop in issue #40, she’s doing martial arts and moving around. It makes sense that if you’re doing martial arts, you’re going to have something that’s going to cover you a little, especially if you’re wearing a skirt.”

Most of the people would say: what´s the problem with that? The artist´s has a very rightful point.

But there are people who don´t agree, and they are like wolves critizing the poor artist´s actions In the last comics convetions, there was always someone bringing the underwear issue!

I quote what I read in a blogger page today :
"The topic that seems to come up time and time again on message boards is the presence of those red shorts under the skirt. In fact, some Supergirl message board topics have started out talking about one thing only to derail into a ' panties vs bike shorts' discussion."


I honestly can´t believe such thng gained so much controversy!
When Dc decided to bring the character back to life, giving her a new origin..the previous artists designed a very tiny costume, leaving almost anything to the imagination

I know this is a very silly thing to write in a journal, and what I want to say with this is that sometimes, when a character becomes so popular, sometimes a war among fans can begin.
Everybody likes the character, and everybody imagines their own plotlines and idealize their hero or heroine.
Each of us give an inner voice to the character we love, and even some of us like to draw or write about it.

The incredible thing is how a too excessive love or hate towards a popular theme can bring the silliest side of humanity.
And the Supergirl design is a clear example of that.

Oh my, sometimes people can act really, really childish.

And Jamal Igle asked to his fans, NEVER mention the shorts again.

I am not asking to tell how Supergirl should be, but have you ever heard about something else as silly as this?

Carpe diem!!!

Besides writting my book, I decided to join contest.
I admire this artist very much, her skills are beautiful and I believe she´s one of the best artists from Deviantart. Her style is neat and delicate, and at the same time very detailed. I also like from Vyrl the fact that she constantly seeks to break her own limits and try new techniques

I know that this competition will be very hard, and I already saw wonderful entries ; still, I want to accept this challenge and see how much I can improve my style.
