Description

Marie Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette

Hero of two worlds. He fought in the American Independence , he returned to France as a hero just in time to play an important role in the upcoming french revolution.
He wanted changes in France and he became a leader in the movement against the French monarchy.
"Blondinet" was once Washington´s best friend, then hated by Marie Antoinette. He wanted moderate changes but revolutionaries wanted blood. His popularity would fall and be forced to leave his beloved country.
When in August in 1792 he crossed over into Austria he was captured and held as a prisoner of war until 1797, when Napoleon Bonaparte obtained his release from jail.
It would pass at least a couple of years before he would be able to return to France...

Well, this is my take on the Marquis. I hope I did a good job drawing and colouring him because it was quite hard to do!:phew:

Meanwhile...carpe diem!

Ayhe,
Your drawing of the Marquis is terrific! The write up indicating what a fascinating man he was is very well stated. May I have permission to use your hero picture? I am designing a poster. It is for a historian's lecture to a small group that I lead. Let me know if you'd like more info on this. And please let me know how I should attribute the illustration if you allow me to use it. At this point I have "©2013-2016 ayhe"
Thank you,
Steve Cox
